Celtic have been linked with plenty of players in recent days. One name that has managed to capture the imagination of the supporters is Daniel Podence. The Wolves winger did not participate in pre-season games and was left out of their matchday 1 squad against Manchester United as well. Thus, his exit from the Molineux Stadium seems almost inevitable.
On the other hand, Celtic are in need of a winger following the exit of Jota earlier in the summer. They have brought in two highly-rated youngsters in Yang Hyun-jun and Marco Tilio. They might not be ready to replace the Portuguese winger at this point in time though.
Celtic need someone established to be Jota’s replacement. Someone who can walk straight into the starting XI and produce from the get-go.
Podence could be that player. He is Premier League-proven and while he has been largely inconsistent, when on top of his game he has produced against top-level opposition. The Portuguese international’s future seems to have taken a bit of a twist recently though.
Podence transfer twist amid heavy Celtic links
It had looked like Podence leaving Wolves this summer was inevitable. And yet, it looks like the door to the first-team might have been reopened once again. As reported by Express & Star, manager Gary O’Neil said:
"“I’m looking at all of them. Things move quickly in transfer windows and things can change, but they’re training with the group and are giving everything.“Both Jonny and Podence have trained really well. Guedes is doing a little bit of rehab work on a small issue he has.“But they’re in with the group and we’re assessing all of them. Everyone is together at the moment and it’ll remain that way until something changes.”"
Thus, it looks like there is a possibility that Podence could find himself back in the mix at Wolves. Of course, it could be a matter of making the most of what they have.
With just weeks left in the summer transfer window, it is very possible that Podence might end up staying at the club. In that scenario, it would be wise of them to try and get the best out of the Portuguese winger rather than continuing to leave him out of the team.
