Celtic have been linked with quite a few high-profile names in recent times, as we are in the last two weeks of the summer transfer window. Time has absolutely flown by and the club have brought in six new faces to Parkhead. The speculation about marquee signings has led nowhere though. Let’s see if that changes in the coming days. Daniel Podence is a player being rumoured with a potential move to Glasgow.
Podence currently plays for Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League. But he seems to be pretty much out of the plans at Molineux Stadium.
Podence did not feature in Wolves’ pre-season games, incidentally one of which was against Celtic. And he was not included in the squad that took on Manchester United in their opening Premier League game of the season.
Thus, it feels very likely that Podence would depart Wolves before the summer transfer window slams shut. Could Celtic be his next destination?
Celtic boss gives firm answer to Daniel Podence question
Brendan Rodgers gave nothing away when questioned about the matter. As reported by Glasgow Times, when asked about any news on a potential move for Podence, the Celtic manager said:
"“No. None at all.”"
It remains to be seen if that is a matter of Rodgers keeping his cards close to his chest or whether there is nothing in the plans when it comes to making a move for Podence. Celtic fans will be hoping that it is the latter.
Jota left the club earlier on in the summer and the club lost a regular starter and one of their best players as a result. They need to replace him with someone with the ability to make something happen on the pitch at any given moment. They seem to be missing that kind of a player at the moment. Someone like Podence could potentially take up that role if signed.
