Things appear to be picking up pace for Celtic in the transfer market over the past few days. They have been linked with some high-profile names like Eric Dier and Daniel Podence lately, either of whom would be great additions to this team and a statement of intent on the part of the club. Quentin Merlin is also a highly-rated French youth international, the Hoops are rumoured to hold an interest in.

Celtic also recently completed the signing of Gustaf Lagerbielke from IF Elfsborg. It is hard to keep up with all the rumours and speculation surrounding the club at the moment, to be honest.

It is safe to say that most Celtic fans would prefer to see the club sign Podence from Wolves this summer. But one cannot overlook the rumours linking them with Ryan Fraser of Newcastle United as well.

Fraser might not be a flashy name these days, but he could be a smart addition. As reported by Newcastle World, John Hartson told Go Radio:

"“He is a good player.“He’s not played regularly of late, his game time has become not as much as he would have wanted. I am not too sure if he is in Howe’s plans. Newcastle are looking at the top-end market.“I think Ryan Fraser is a talent and joining Celtic would be a very wise move because he has a lot to prove as well.”"

Fraser seems to be completely out of Howe’s plans at the moment. He made his last appearance for the Magpies back in October of last year.

Of course, there would be concerns about how match-fit he is as a result. But at the same time, he is 29 years of age and on paper, should be in the middle of his prime as a footballer.

Also, when on top of his game, Fraser has shown more quality than Podence at the Premier League level. During his time at Bournemouth, the Scottish winger was exceptional and was regularly tipped for a move to one of the top six sides.

Either Fraser or Podence could be a good signing for Celtic. It remains to be seen if the club can get a deal done.
