When Jota left Celtic earlier this summer in order to join Al-Ittihad, he left a massive gap in the squad as well. It is something that the Hoops need to fill as soon as possible. If the performances over the first few weeks of the league season have shown anything, it is that the club are lacking that creative spark at the moment. Something that the Portuguese winger brought to the table.

Could Celtic try to replace Jota with another Portuguese winger? Let’s see because they are being linked with Daniel Podence of Wolves.

Podence currently seems to be completely out of the picture at Wolves. He was not used in the pre-season games and was left out of the matchday squad to take on Manchester United as well.

Thus, an exit not only looks likely but almost inevitable. With just a couple of weeks left in the summer transfer window, could Celtic swoop in and make something happen?

Celtic handed £12 million Podence transfer boost

Celtic’s hopes of signing Podence appear to have been handed a boost. It appears that Wolves are struggling with a lack of funds at the moment.

As reported by The Athletic, Nico Elvedi remains a possible target for Wolves but the Premier League side do not have the funds available to pay his transfer fee, which would be potentially less than £10 million. So, the club need to generate funds if they want the move to happen and their two most likely sources of income remain to transfer Jonny and Podence.

Thus, it gives Celtic a boost in the race to sign Podence. He is believed to be rated at £12 million but with just weeks left in the summer transfer window, there could be room for negotiation as well. Someone like him could be the replacement for Jota that the club need.
