Celtic were handed a major blow earlier in the summer when Ange Postecoglou left the club to join Tottenham Hotspur just days after winning the treble. The Australian had done a fantastic job at Parkhead over the past couple of seasons, winning five trophies. Thus, his leaving was not ideal. The Hoops have replaced him with Brendan Rodgers and it remains to be seen if the Northern Irishman can find success in his second stint at Parkhead.

On the other hand, Tottenham Hotspur fans seem to have warmed up to Postecoglou even though they had their doubts when the appointment was made. In many ways, it is a situation similar to what he had faced at Celtic.

Of course, Celtic fans will know very well that Postecoglou likes his sides to play his own brand of football. And could one Tottenham Hotspur veteran be on his way out of the London club this summer? Interestingly, Parkhead seems to be a potential destination for him if that were to happen.

As reported by 90min, Eric Dier could leave Tottenham Hotspur before the end of the summer. Celtic are believed to be admirers of the player. A few other clubs are interested as well.

Dier can play as both a centre-back and in defensive midfield. And he has been at Tottenham Hotspur for years now.

Thus, it came as a surprise to many that he was not made a part of the club’s leadership group under the management of Postecoglou. James Maddison, who arrived only this summer, was handed the vice-captaincy ahead of Dier.

Would he be a good signing for Celtic though? Perhaps the idea of signing Dier would not excite a lot of the fans. But he has spent more than a decade at a club like Tottenham Hotspur, played regular football for them and has made almost 50 appearances for the England national team as well. Also, at 29 years of age, he is very much in the middle of his prime.
