Celtic have already brought in five new players this summer and are believed to be closing in on a move for Gustaf Lagerbielke of IF Elfsborg as well. The club are expected to make further additions to their squad before the ongoing transfer window slams shut in a little over a couple of weeks. And one of them could be a Premier League-proven winger, the perfect replacement for Jota.

Jota’s exit came as a blow to the team for sure. The Portuguese winger was a mainstay in the starting XI over the past couple of seasons, perhaps their most creative outlet and a man for the big occasions as well.

Celtic’s performances over the first two league games have shown that they are missing someone like Jota. Could they turn to another Portuguese winger to replace him?

As tweeted out by Anthony Joseph, Celtic are keen on Daniel Podence. Wolves want a transfer fee around £12 million for him, but it is understood that the Hoops see room for negotiation, if they do make an approach.

A £12 million fee would break the current Celtic transfer record. It was the £9 million figure they were believed to have shelled out in order to sign Odsonne Edouard from PSG.

It is safe to say that that move worked out quite well for the club, taking everything into consideration. Now, could we see them shattering that record this summer in order to sign Podence from Wolves? Only time shall tell.

Podence was a regular feature for Wolves last season. But it looks like he does not have a future at the club. He was left out of their pre-season games and was not part of their squad which took on Manchester United in the Premier League opener.
