Jota left Celtic earlier in the summer in order to join Al-Ittihad in a £25 million move. Things have not quite gone the Portuguese winger’s way since then and there is already talk of him being sent out on loan. On the other hand, the Hoops have not brought in a proper replacement for him either. Yang Hyun-jun and Marco Tilio are highly-rated, but they might not be ready to be regular starters yet.
Celtic fans would have been hoping for a blockbuster signing in order to replace Jota, especially considering the transfer fee the club pocketed from his exit. And with just a few weeks left in the summer window, they are being linked with a high-profile winger.
As tweeted out by Tom Collomosse, Celtic are among the clubs following the situation of Daniel Podence. He was not in the squad against Manchester United and was left out of the pre-season stint in Portugal as well. Wolves value him at a £12 million transfer fee.
Podence was a regular in Wolves’ team last season. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 6 goals in 32 Premier League appearances in the 2022/23 campaign.

Someone like Podence could be an excellent addition to this Celtic team. There is no question about his talent and he has even represented the Portugal national team on one occasion.
Things have just never quite worked out for him at Wolves. But Celtic might very well be a better fit for him.
Celtic can also offer him the chance to compete for trophies every year and play in the Champions League as well. At the same time though, it is very hard to imagine them shelling out a £12 million transfer fee to sign the talented Portuguese winger from Wolves in the ongoing summer window.
