Celtic fans have been calling out for some experienced players to be brought in this summer but they might not be entirely happy with the rumours linking the club with one such player. That is none other than Newcastle United winger, Ryan Fraser, who is expected to depart St James’ Park this summer.
Fraser was superb during his time at Bournemouth and impressed early on for Newcastle United as well. He seems to have run into some trouble behind the scenes though.
Fraser last played back in October of last year. And him leaving the club seems pretty much inevitable at this point in time. Celtic have been linked with him but a move to Parkhead won’t be simple.
As reported by the Daily Record, Fraser has been offered to Celtic and a host of clubs in England as Eddie Howe is keen to get him off the books. The Hoops are considering making a move as well. His wages could prove to be a major stumbling block though, with the 29-year-old understood to be earning more than £60,000 per week at St James’ Park.
Major update on Fraser to Celtic transfer situation
It is hard to imagine that Celtic would hand out a contract anywhere near that to Fraser, or anyone for that matter. So, a move to Parkhead might be very complicated.
His current deal with Newcastle United runs until the summer of 2025. And it remains to be seen if the Magpies can find a way in order to make his exit easier.
As a player, Fraser is superb on his day. But at the same time, he has not played competitive football in almost a year now. And he has never really been able to replicate the form that he showed at Bournemouth. So, any move for the 29-year-old would come with some risk involved.
