Celtic are expected to remain active in the transfer window over the next few weeks. The club have both their league games this season till now but their performances have left a lot to be desired. This does not look or feel like the well-oiled engine that Ange Postecoglou’s team was. And there are certain players who do not seem to fit Brendan Rodgers’ style of play.
One of them might be Greg Taylor. There were always doubts about how the left-back would do following the departure of Postecoglou.
Taylor had an unremarkable career at Celtic Park before Postecoglou’s arrival. And his performances under the management of Rodgers have raised plenty of questions.
Alexandro Bernabei has not covered himself in glory during his time at Celtic either. So, do not be surprised if the club end up signing another left-back this summer. In fact, they seem to have their eyes set on a French youth international.
Celtic interest in French Ligue 1 left-back confirmed
As tweeted out by Emmanuel Merceron, Celtic are observing the situation of Quentin Merlin. No approach has been made at the moment.
Merlin currently plays for Ligue 1 side, Nantes. He is 21 years of age and has represented France at multiple youth levels till now. The youngster is capable of playing in midfield as well.
Thus, it is not hard to see why Celtic might be interested in signing someone like Merlin. He ticks all the boxes that the club look for in a signing. Now, it remains to be seen if they end up making an approach for him or not.
Nantes barely managed to avoid relegation last season. And with Ligue 1 going from 20 teams to 18 moving forward, staying up could prove to be even more difficult. On the other hand, at Celtic, Merlin would have the chance to compete for trophies every year as well as play at the Champions League level.
