Celtic have already made five signings this summer, bringing Odin Thiago Holm, Marco Tilio, Yang Hyun-jun, Kwon Hyeok-kyu and Maik Nawrocki to the club in the ongoing transfer window. The Hoops are expected to make more additions to their ranks though, and it looks like the next one is very close.

Celtic recently saw Carl Starfelt leave in order to join Celta Vigo. As a result, they lost a nailed-on starter.

Nawrocki has started both games this season until now. Rumours have suggested though that the club are on the verge of signing Gustaf Lagerbielke from IF Elfsborg to add competition in the heart of defence. The fact that Cameron Carter-Vickers appeared to pick up a knock in the recent game against Aberdeen should only accelerate those plans.

As reported by Football Scotland, while speaking to Sky Sports, Rodgers was asked about having a new player in and the Celtic manager said:

"“Very close. I’m pretty sure next week we’ll get that done.”"

All things appear to be pointing towards Celtic getting a deal for Lagerbielke over the line next week. Unless the club end up springing a surprise and signing somebody else. That has happened a few times in recent years. So, it should not be completely ruled out.

It will be interesting to see how the rest of the transfer window turns out for Celtic. Carter-Vickers and Reo Hatate both appeared to pick up knocks against Aberdeen and that might lead to some urgency if the issues are anything serious. The Hoops do need more quality.

They have lost two undisputed starters this summer in Jota and Starfelt. But have not brought anyone in of that calibre. Yes, all the players they have signed are highly rated and have a lot of potential. But are they ready to make an impact from the get-go or has the Celtic starting XI taken a step back in terms of quality?
