Not too long ago, Kieran Tierney was considered as one of the best left-backs in the Premier League and a future Arsenal captain. Now, he cannot even make the matchday squad, as he was left out of the season-opener against Nottingham Forest. Rumours about a potential return to Parkhead mean that Celtic fans will be keeping a close eye on the situation.

It was in the summer of 2019 that Tierney left Celtic to join Arsenal in a £25 million move. Since then, he has had an up-and-down time at the London club to say the very least.

Tierney was expected to head out of the exit door this summer, after struggling to get into the team last season. But as the 2023/24 campaign has kicked off, he is still at Arsenal. For how much longer though?

As tweeted out by Fabrizio Romano, Tierney is still expected to leave Arsenal in the next weeks. Real Sociedad are interested.

For the time being, it looks like Arsenal are only looking to let Tierney leave on a permanent deal. But as the end of the transfer update gets closer, it is possible that that could change.

It would be impossible for Celtic to sign Tierney on a permanent basis. But a loan move could still be possible, under the right circumstances. The fact that Brendan Rodgers has not completely ruled out the rumours is interesting as well.

It remains to be seen how things play out over the coming weeks regarding the future of Tierney. A move to Celtic feels unlikely but it is not completely impossible. It would be the kind of statement signing that the Hoops need to make if they are serious about making their presence felt in the Champions League group stages this season.
