Celtic started their campaign with a win over Ross County. Now, they are set to face a tougher test. Brendan Rodgers’ side will travel to Pittodrie Stadium for the second game of their league season. With the Rangers winning this weekend, the pressure is on the Hoops to come home with the three points in order to main their early lead over their Glasgow rivals.

One player who will be very familiar with the Pittodrie conditions is Liam Scales. He spent the previous season out on loan there and was a starter, as they managed to finish third in the league.

That was even more impressive when you consider the terrible start that Aberdeen had made last season. And it is believed that the Dons want Scales back on loan this season as well.

Will it end up happening? Only time shall tell. Rodgers seems to be keeping his cards close to his chest for the time being.

As reported by the Daily Record, Rodgers said regarding the situation of Scales:

"“By the end of the window we’ll be in a position where we’ll know where are with the squad. I know where we need to strengthen. Liam has trained really well in pre-season. I’d seen hardly anything of him so I wanted to take the chance to see him. It’s all about timing, going out to play. There’s obviously benefits to staying here and working with an intense group. Ultimately, it’s about game time as well for players.“Liam turned 25 the other day and he will have the mindset I’m sure at that age of wanting to play. But his attitude has been first-class and he has qualities as a player. We’ll just assess where it’s at over the coming weeks.”"

Scales was signed in the summer of 2021 from Shamrock Rovers. He played a bit of football in his first season at Parkhead but never really managed to nail down a spot in the team. In the second one, he went out on loan to Aberdeen and impressed there.

It remains to be seen how things will turn out for him this time around. It does not feel like a decision has been made yet.

He certainly impressed in pre-season this time around and must have made a positive impression on Rodgers. The 25-year-old is also capable of playing both as a centre-back and as a left-back. That kind of versatility means that keeping him around makes sense for the Hoops, even if he is not a starter.
