Celtic have a stacked squad at this point in time. Yet, there are some positions where they could do with strengthening. One of them is certainly between the posts, where Joe Hart is the number one right now. The Englishman has played his part in the five trophies the club have won over the previous two campaigns, but he certainly does not look like the long-term goalkeeping solution.
A lot of Celtic fans would want Celtic to sign a new goalkeeper this summer. But it looks like one could be headed out of Parkhead soon.
That player is Benjamin Siegrist. He was signed last summer after an impressive spell at Dundee United. But the Swissman has barely featured since then and already seems to be looking for a way out.
As reported by CeltsAreHere, Stephen McGowan said while speaking on the Press Box podcast:
"“Apart from that, I believe Benjamin Siegrist wants to go out and get some first team football. He’s only played something like seven games since arriving. His agent is looking for a new opportunity for him, so there might be a vacancy for a goalkeeper soon.”"
Postecoglou signing wants to leave Celtic this summer
Siegrist is a very good goalkeeper without doubt and it is a bit confusing why he has not gotten more chances at Celtic Park. It would have been one thing if Hart was playing at the peak of his powers but that is not the case either.
If Siegrist wants to leave and does not have any first-team prospects moving forward, then it would make sense to let him go. It would open up a spot in the squad that Celtic could fill with a new goalkeeper.
Now, it remains to be seen how things play out over the last few weeks of the summer transfer window. There had been rumours linking the club with a move for Dominik Livakovic earlier but those seem to have faded away as well. At this point of time, sticking with Hart as number one seems more likely than bringing in a new number one.
