There are a few positions where Celtic could do with more options. One of them is left-back. The club have Greg Taylor and Alexandro Bernabei in their ranks right now, while Liam Scales is capable of playing there as well. But, rumours have suggested that the Hoops are looking to make an addition there.

The reasons might be clearer than one thinks. Taylor shined under the management of Ange Postecoglou, but does he fit Brendan Rodgers’ system? Also, there are major question marks over Bernabei, especially his struggles in the defensive phase. And Scales could end up leaving this summer.

If Celtic do end up going for a left-back, who should they try to sign? Well, there is a pretty intriguing option that they should at least consider.

Brandon Williams finds himself completely out of plans at Manchester United. That is unfortunate for the youngster, who had made such an impression when he had broken into the senior team as a teenager. Perhaps Celtic should consider making a move for him this summer.

Williams could certainly do with a change of scenery and has recently been linked with a move to Leeds United. Celtic would surely be an attractive option though, with a chance to compete for trophies and play in the Champions League as well.

There is no doubt about Williams’ talent. He was playing consistent football for the Red Devils as a teenager.

But his career has stagnated since then and it might be a risk to pay a major transfer fee to sign him. Celtic found a lot of success signing players on loan with an option to buy a couple of summers back, bringing in Jota and Cameron Carter-Vickers on such deals. Maybe they should try to do something similar with Williams as well.
