Celtic have seen quite a few players depart the club this summer, either on a permanent basis or on loan. Of course, the recent headlines have been grabbed by the exit of Carl Starfelt and understandably so. The Swede was a regular starter for the Hoops and played a major part in their successes over the previous two seasons.
He is not the only one who headed for the exit door recently though. The loan move of Ben McPherson to Queen’s Park FC was confirmed on the same day.
And now, it looks like another of Celtic’s most talented youngsters is set to leave the club on a temporary basis. That player is none other than Ben Summers.
The youngster has already played for the senior team but he is not expected to get consistent playing time with them. As a result, leaving on loan might be the best step for him, as it would give him the chance to develop his game at the senior level.
Celtic midfielder set to join Championship club on loan
As reported by The Courier, Dunfermline Athletic are set to sign Summers on loan from Celtic. The youngster is set to become James McPake’s sixth summer signing.
Of course, Summers is very highly-rated at Celtic Park. And Dunfermline Athletic are viewed as a good place for the 19-year-old to continue his development.
Summers has already made a couple of substitute appearances for Celtic at the senior level. But he is nowhere near ready to feature for the Hoops on a consistent basis. Thus, going out on loan was the right move.
Dunfermline Athletic have recently gotten promoted to the Scottish Championship from League One. And they have made a winning start to the 2023/24 campaign. Someone like Summers would be expected to get regular playing time there.
