To be very honest, a lot of Celtic fans have been left underwhelmed by how the summer transfer window has turned out for the Hoops. When Brendan Rodgers was reappointed as manager, there was talk of marquee signings, big-name arrivals and a budget north of £30 million. None of that has come true yet and perhaps expectations were set a bit too high.

At the same time though, it does not mean that the club have not been active in the transfer market. They have brought in five fresh faces.

Celtic have brought in five very highly rated youngsters in the form of Odin Thiago Holm, Yang Hyun-jun, Kwon Hyeok-kyu, Marco Tilio and Maik Nawrocki. And now, it looks like the club are closing in on a sixth new arrival.

As tweeted out by Anthony Joseph, talks between Celtic and IF Elfsborg for Gustaf Lagerbielke are understood to be progressing well. There’s a willingness from all sides to get a deal done, as the centre-back is keen to move to Parkhead this summer.

Just like the other five, Lagerbielke is a highly-rated young talent as well. And he has the potential to be a key player for Celtic in the future if his development goes according to expectations.

At the same time, it is also about finding the right balance between youth and experience. This summer, Celtic have not done that.

They have lost two nailed-on starters in the form of Carl Starfelt and Jota, and they simply have not brought in players who are capable of taking their place in the team immediately. Also, they have not added to their goalkeeping ranks either, a position that is viewed by most supporters as an area of weakness for the team right now.
