€20 million Celtic transfer target signs for Galatasaray

When Celtic brought back Brendan Rodgers for another stint in the Parkhead hot seat, despite how things ended the last time around, the Northern Irishman along with rumours of marquee signings. There were suggestions that the club were ready to make some high-profile addition this summer in order to make a real impact in the Champions League.

If the transfer activity since then is anything to go by, it looks like those reports were wide of the mark. Celtic have made no marquee signings till now.

And as things stand, it does not look like they might end up making any. In fact, one high profile name that they were linked with is set to join Galatasaray.

As tweeted out by Fabrizio Romano, Galatasaray have signed documents to complete a deal for Tete. He joins as a free agent.

Celtic were linked with Tete this summer and the rumours made sense as well. Firstly, the club could do with a winger like him after Jota left earlier on in the window. They have brought in Yang Hyun-jun and Marco Tilio, but most fans feel that that is not enough to replace the superstar from Portugal.

On the other hand, Tete was available as a free agent as well. And on top of everything else, he had already worked under the management of Rodgers, during their time together at Leicester City.

None of that led to Celtic signing Tete though as the Brazilian winger is set to join Galatasaray instead. Several credible sources had claimed about the Hoops’ interest in the €20 million-rated player but it is unclear whether they ever made a real move for him.

Someone like Tete could have been a good signing for Celtic, especially as a free agent, but it was not to be. Let’s see if they end up signing another winger later this summer.
