This summer transfer window is proving to be a tough one for Celtic. The Hoops have already lost one starter in Jota, with the Portuguese winger leaving for Al-Ittihad last month. And now, the club seem to be on the verge of losing another key player from the Ange Postecoglou era, as Carl Starfelt is expected to leave very soon. La Liga’s Celta Vigo are believed to be the favourites to sign him.

Celtic will need to bring in a replacement for Starfelt though. Defence had already been an area of worry for the Hoops in recent months and now, they are losing their most experienced centre-back.

On a positive note, it looks like the club have already started their search to replace Starfelt. And two centre-backs seem to be in their sights.

As tweeted out by Sky Sports News, Celtic have made enquiries for two centre-backs as they look to replace Starfelt. Enquiries have been made for Elfsborg’s Gustaf Lagerbielke and Volendam’s Xavier Mbuyamba.

Rumours coming out of Sweden have suggested that Celtic have already made a transfer bid for Lagerbielke. The 23-year-old currently plays for IF Elfsborg, who sit at the top of the Swedish league right now, with the centre-back certainly playing his part in that.

On the other hand, the Hoops have been linked with a move for Mbuyamba for a while now. The Dutchman earned comparisons to Virgil van Dijk as a youngster but failed to make the top grade at Barcelona and Chelsea. He has found his feet at the senior level at Volendam though.

Either could be solid additions to this Celtic squad. But at the same time, neither would not be the experienced and established centre-back that many fans would have been hoping for the club to sign.
