As news broke out that Carl Starfelt was set to leave the club this summer, Celtic seem to be wasting no time in trying to find a replacement for him. And it looks like the Hoops could be trying to replace the 28-year-old centre-back this summer with one of his Swedish international teammates.
Starfelt has been a regular starter for Celtic over the past two seasons, playing a key part in all their successes under the management of Ange Postecoglou. Thus, many fans were hoping that the club would bring in an experienced and established centre-back to replace the Swede.
But it looks like Celtic will be sticking to their policy of signing highly-rated young players. On this occasion, it is Gustaf Lagerbielke of IF Elfsborg, who has caught the Hoops’ sights.
As reported by Expressen, Celtic have made a transfer bid in the region of £3 million for Lagerbielke. They want to sign the centre-back this summer.
Celtic submit £3 million bid for Starfelt replacement
Lagerbielke currently plays for IF Elfsborg. The club are sitting at the top of the Swedish top flight this season till now and the defender has certainly played his part in that.
He has played in the majority of the games for the club this season. And his performances seem to have convinced Celtic to go out and submit a transfer bid for him. Now, it remains to be seen if it ends up being accepted or not.
As a player, Lagerbielke is a centre-back with impressive size, standing at almost 6′ 4″. Thus, it is not hard to see the type of defender that Celtic are looking to sign in order to partner with Cameron Carter-Vickers in the heart of defence. He is also just 23 years of age but has some decent experience under his belt, having played more than a hundred games and he has appeared for the Swedish national team once already.
