Quite a few players have made the move from Manchester City to Celtic over the years, either on loan or on a permanent basis. Even this summer, there have been several of the Treble winners’ youngsters, who have been linked with a switch to Parkhead. And now, it looks like it is time to add another name to that list.
Earlier in the summer, Carlos Borges was rumoured to be a potential Celtic target. He has ended up joining Ajax though. More recently, the Hoops have been linked with a move for Tommy Doyle.
Doyle is not the only Manchester City midfielder who Celtic seem to have their eyes on though. It looks like they are eyeing another youngster from Pep Guardiola’s side.
As reported by the Daily Mail (via 67 Hail Hail), Celtic hold an interest in James McAtee. Wolves, Brighton & Hove Albion, Real Sociedad, Sheffield United, Southampton and AZ Alkmaar also seem to be in the race to sign him.
Celtic reportedly interested in another Manchester City player
McAtee spent the previous season out on loan at Sheffield United and impressed there, as they got promoted to the Premier League. It is hard to see him getting consistent chances to play for Manchester City though.
Thus, leaving the club might be the best option for the youngster at this stage of his career as he needs to be playing consistent football at the senior level. And Celtic might be a great destination for him.
The Hoops can offer him the chance to compete for trophies on a consistent basis and play in the Champions League. He is capable of playing as a number 10 or deeper in a central midfield role as well. It will be interesting to see whether McAtee is available on a permanent transfer or a loan deal.
