Carl Starfelt leaving Celtic is a blow for the club without a shadow of a doubt. The Swedish centre-back has often not gotten the credit that he deserves for what he has brought to the table for the Hoops. But no one can deny that he has been a nailed-on starter in the heart of defence for the past two seasons and played a key part in the club’s five trophy wins during that period of time.
Starfelt has also formed a brilliant partnership with Cameron Carter-Vickers at the back. But it looks like we have already seen the last of that duo.
Starfelt’s time at Celtic Park might be coming to an end very soon. He was left out of the starting XI in the game against Ross County and Brendan Rodgers’ comments on the day pretty much confirmed that an exit was in the plans for the Swede.
Since then, several reliable sources have added to the story about the Starfelt situation. And it is starting to look like he could be on his way out of Parkhead for a surprising bargain transfer fee.
Starfelt set to leave Celtic for bargain transfer fee
As reported by Relevo, the forecast is for Starfelt to land in Vigo in the next 48 hours and make himself available to manager Rafa Benitez as soon as possible. The transfer could be closed for a figure slightly less than €5 million.
That figure will come as a surprise to most Celtic fans. When Starfelt had signed for the Hoops a couple of summers back, it was believed to be for a transfer fee around €5 million.
One would have thought that Starfelt raised his transfer value during his two years at Celtic and at 28 years of age, he is in the middle of his prime. Thus, this latest rumour is pretty surprising.
