One issue that Celtic have faced in recent years is their inability to bring through their most highly-rated youth players into the senior team. Callum McGregor is the only regular starter in the current team, who has come through the ranks at the club. Other than that, Anthony Ralston is the backup right-back while Stephen Welsh is on the fringes of the squad and could even leave soon.

This is an area where the Hoops need to impress. But considering the pressure at Celtic to win almost every game that they play in, it is not hard to see why managers might find it difficult to give significant playing time to youngsters.

Thus, the best step for many of them is to head out on loan. And it looks one of Celtic’s most highly-rated young talents is headed out of the club on a temporary basis this summer and set for the Scottish Championship.

That player is none other than Ben McPherson. As reported by journalist Alan Nixon (via 67 Hail Hail), he is heading to the Scottish Championship club, Queen’s Park, on loan for the season.

McPherson is 19 years of age and he is a right-back. That is a position where the Hoops could do with some depth right now, with Alistair Johnston being out of action.

McPherson was included in the club’s pre-season squad and he did manage to impress the supporters with his displays. At the same time, it is clear that he is not ready to be a regular feature in the first-team.

McPherson was playing in the Lowland League till now but it looks like it is time for him to make the jump to the Championship. Queen’s Park are one of the best teams in the Scottish second division and are expected to be in contention to be promoted to the Premiership.
