Carl Starfelt seems to be closing in on a Celtic exit this summer. The Swedish centre-back has been a regular starter for the Hoops since arriving in the summer of 2021. But now, it looks like his run at Parkhead might be set to come to an end very soon. A move to Celta Vigo is rumoured to be on the verge of completion.
Of course, someone as important as Starfelt leaving is not ideal for Celtic by any means. They have already lost one starter this summer in Jota and now, another one seems to be on the way out.
The club have made five additions, but all of them are highly-rated youngsters and not established players. Thus, the starting XI might actually be weaker now unless the Hoops bring in some proven players over the coming weeks.
Why does Starfelt want to leave Celtic at this point in time though? Well, it might not be down to footballing reasons.
Why Starfelt wants to leave Celtic this summer
As tweeted out by Anthony Joseph, it is understood that Starfelt has been looking to move for a number of personal reasons. Celtic have respected that.
That does show class on the part of Celtic. Now, it remains to be seen where Starfelt ends up. Spain is looking like his most likely destination at this point but things can change quickly in the transfer market.
Someone like Starfelt has often not gotten the credit that he deserves for what he has brought to Celtic over the past couple of seasons. Yes, there are some weaknesses in his game. But overall, he has formed a brilliant partnership with Cameron Carter-Vickers in the heart of defence and that duo has helped deliver five trophies in two seasons. One thing nobody can argue with is success.
