Celtic find themselves in a good position right now. They are looking to defend the domestic treble this season. On top of that, Brendan Rodgers’ side will surely want to make their presence felt in the UEFA Champions League as well. Overall, they have a very solid squad and not much need for reinforcements.
There are a couple of positions though, where Celtic could do with fresh faces. Of course, a large portion of the focus has been on the wings, following the exit of Jota.
It is not hard to understand why. Jota was a very important player for this Celtic team. They have brought in a couple of very highly-rated youngsters in Yang Hyun-jun and Marco Tilio, but neither might be ready to replace the Portuguese winger at this point in their careers.
It remains to be seen where Celtic end up adding a marquee player to replace Jota. There is another position that the fans must keep an eye out on. As reported by GIVEMESPORT, transfer insider Dean Jones said:
"“Rodgers intends to replace Jota, and while I don’t expect it to be a huge signing, I think, by Scottish Premiership standards, they will bring someone in who makes a significant mark on the league.“I keep hearing about the goalkeeper situation too, which could be something to look out for. Livakovic is being linked pretty heavily, and someone like that would probably be considered a marquee signing, to be honest – just at the opposite end of the pitch to where we might be expecting it.”"
Transfer insider hints at marquee signing for Celtic
Someone like Dominik Livakovic would certainly be a marquee addition for Celtic. He was the star performer for the Croatian national team at the last World Cup as they finished third in the competition.
At this point, Livakovic might very well be one of the most underrated players in all of Europe. It remains to be seen if he ends up at Celtic Park at some point in the near future or not. Hopefully, the club will try to make it happen.
There are other goalkeepers who can have a big impact at Celtic as well. The club have Joe Hart as their number one right now but the 36-year-old is not a long-term solution for the Hoops, even though he deserves credit for the job he has done over his two seasons at Parkhead.
