Celtic could do with another goalkeeper at this point in time. Joe Hart deserves a lot of respect for the job that he has done over the past two seasons, since arriving from Tottenham Hotspur. But it is also important to recognise that he is 36 years of age, not a long-term solution between the posts and his recent performances have raised many questions as well.

It is possible that Hart could be Celtic’s number one for another season. But bringing in another top-quality goalkeeper to challenge him for the starting spot would be ideal.

Dominik Livakovic is someone that Celtic have been linked with in recent times. The Croatian goalkeeper was a hero at the 2022 World Cup for his national team, as they finished third in the competition.

It is surprising that at 28 years of age, he still is not playing in a top five European league. Livakovic is easily one of the most underrated goalkeepers in world football right now and Celtic signing him would be considered as a major coup.

It had looked like Livakovic was on his way to Fenerbahce but now, it looks like that potential deal could be on the brink of collapsing. As reported by CeltsAreHere, Anthony Joseph said on their flagship podcast:

"“Celtic have been closely monitoring Livakovic’s situation. A few days after I reported on it, Fenerbahce had made a bid and they were very close to doing that deal. That deal hasn’t been done yet, there has been a lot of delay to that and it could be on the brink of collapse.”"

Of course, even if the move to Fenerbahce does not end up happening, it would not be simple for Celtic to sign Livakovic. Other clubs, including Villarreal, are believed to be interested in signing the Croatian number one this summer.

Let’s see how things play out. Celtic might soon be handed a second chance to sign Livakovic this summer. He is believed to have a release clause set around €10 million in his deal with Dinamo Zagreb. That sort of transfer fee would make him the second most expensive signing in the Hoops’ history.
