Celtic have already lost one nailed-on starter this summer in the form of Jota. The Portuguese winger played a key part in the club’s successes over the past two seasons but left recently in a £25 million move in order to join the likes of Karim Benzema and N’Golo Kante at Al-Ittihad. And now, it looks like there are question marks over the future of another important star.
The player in question is none other than Carl Starfelt. The Swede has been a mainstay in the heart of the defence for Celtic alongside Cameron Carter-Vickers.
It has often felt like he does not get enough credit for what he has brought to this side over the past two seasons. And now, it remains to be seen whether he will continue at Parkhead beyond this summer.
As reported by The Scottish Sun, Starfelt is weighing up his future. The Celtic chiefs are braced for transfer bids amid interest in the Swedish international.
Celtic starter could make summer exit as bids expected
While Starfelt might not have been one of the faces of the team over the past two seasons, he has certainly been someone who has played a major part in the club’s successes during that period of time. Thus, the Swede leaving would be a blow for Celtic.
Starfelt is the most experienced defender that the club have right now. And the Hoops have had issues at the back recently.
There are question marks over the suitability of Yuki Kobayashi for the Scottish game while Stephen Welsh is expected to leave this summer. Maik Nawrocki has come in amidst a lot of expectations but at the end of the day, he needs to be given time to settle and should not be a starter from the beginning. All things considered, Starfelt staying would be the best-case scenario for Celtic.
