When Brendan Rodgers returned to Celtic earlier this summer, the appointment was accompanied by rumours of marquee signings to come. Till now, those have not led anywhere of substance. The Hoops have signed five players in the ongoing window but all of them are highly-rated youngsters. It remains to be seen if further additions are made over the next month or so.

One high-profile name that Celtic have been linked with lately is that of Tete. The Brazilian winger is believed to have a transfer value of around €20 million. But rumours suggest that he has managed to terminate his contract with Shakhtar Donetsk and is available as a free agent.

Signing a player of Tete’s quality on a free transfer would have to be considered as a major coup for Celtic. And yet, it looks like they are not in the running to sign the Brazilian winger.

There might not be much substance to the rumours after all. As reported by Football Scotland, Tete has been linked with a move to Celtic but those links are wide of the mark. He will not be arriving in Glasgow.

That might be a bit of a mistake on the part of Celtic though. Someone like Tete could be a perfect replacement for Jota. He is the kind of player they should be pushing for.

The Portuguese winger has left behind big boots to fill at Parkhead. The club have brought in Yang Hyun-jun and Marco Tilio, but neither might be ready to take up that big of a role from the get-go.

Thus, Celtic might be weaker on the wings this season, if they do not sign a proper replacement for Jota before the transfer window slams shut. Tete could have been a solid pick, especially as a free agent, but it looks like there is not much interest.
