Celtic have shown a great eye in recent years when it comes to identifying top-quality young talents from around the world and bringing them to Glasgow. Several of them have gone on to become household names during their time in Glasgow and some have even earned themselves big moves away.
Celtic have not done nearly as well when it comes to promoting their own youth stars into the senior team. In fact, Callum McGregor is the only player to come through the ranks at the club, who is a regular starter right now.
They have not been helped by the fact that some of their most highly-rated youngsters have left before ever making a mark at the senior level. And it looks like another name has joined that quickly growing list.
The Scotland Men’s Under-17 squad for the upcoming Switzerland friendlies was named on the Scottish FA website. And Aidan Borland has been listed as an Aston Villa player there.
Celtic midfielder has completed move to Aston Villa
There had been suggestions a few months earlier that Borland was closing in on a move to Aston Villa. And it looks like he has completed a move to the Birmingham club since then, even though no official announcement appears to have been made regarding the move.
Borland was one of the brightest young talents in the Celtic youth ranks. Thus, him leaving is another blow for the club and their hopes of bringing through their own youth stars into the senior team moving forward.
Celtic still have some very highly-rated prospects at Parkhead, who seem to be knocking on the door of the senior team. They are the likes of Rocco Vata and Ben Summers. They got a few chances last season and hopefully, they will become a big part of Brendan Rodgers’ plans moving forward.
