Celtic have signed five highly-rated youngsters this summer till now. All of them have the potential to be key players for the Hoops in the future. At the same time though, they will need to bring in some experience as well, if they are to defend the three domestic titles and make a mark in the Champions League this season.
Celtic have already added to their midfield department this summer by signing Odin Thiago Holm and Kwon Hyeok-kyu. They have lost the experience and quality of Aaron Mooy though, as the Australian decided to retire after just a season in Glasgow.
They might need someone to fill his role in midfield. And it looks like a 29-year-old free agent has caught their eye.
As reported by Fennec Football, Haris Belkebla is a transfer target for Celtic and Sheffield United. He also has the opportunity to leave Europe.
Celtic interested in move for 29-year-old free agent
Belkebla has spent the past four seasons playing regular football for Brest in Ligue 1. He is also an Algerian international and at 29 years of age, very much in the middle of his prime.
Thus, it is not hard to see why Celtic might be interested in signing someone like Belkebla. Especially since he is available as a free agent this summer. He would add a lot of experience to Celtic’s midfield.
But at the same time, Brendan Rodgers might have a tough time giving minutes to everyone if someone like Belkebla was added to the mix as well. The club already have Callum McGregor, Reo Hatate, Matt O’Riley, Holm, Kwon, David Turnbull and James McCarthy. That is a lot of competition for three first-team spots.
It remains to be seen if Celtic end up making a move for Belkebla. To be honest, it feels pretty unlikely unless there is an exit or two on the way in this summer transfer window.
