It is likely that we will see an increased focus on exits from the Celtic squad in what remains of the summer transfer window. There are too many players in the squad currently. Some of them are nowhere near the first-team picture at this point in time and thus, parting ways would make sense for all parties.
Ismaila Soro is a player who would fall under that category. The Ivorian was signed by Celtic for a transfer fee believed to be around £2 million back in January 2020 from Bnei Yehuda.
Soro has made limited appearances for Celtic since then though, with the majority of them coming in the early part of his Parkhead career. Ange Postcoglou could not find a place for him in his plans and he does not appear to be part of Brendan Rodgers’ first-team rotation either.
Soro spent last season out on loan to FC Arouca in Portugal. Since then, he has returned to Celtic, but a move away on a permanent basis could be on the cards this time around.
Two clubs enquire about signing forgotten Celtic player
There were rumours recently that Panathinaikos were interested in Soro and close to finalising a deal. But that move failed to transpire.
Now, as reported by the Glasgow Times, Beitar Jerusalem and Hapoel Be’er Sheva have made enquiries to sign Soro. Thus, a return to Israeli football might be on the cards for him.
Soro’s contract runs out next summer, so any potential transfer value is dwindling. And that’s not at all helped by his struggles at Celtic.
With a need to move several players in similar situations, we have seen the club reach a compromise with Vasilis Barkas earlier. It is possible that a similar offer could be made to Soro in the future if things don’t work out this time around as well.
