Celticβs pre-season campaign came to an end with a 3-2 win over Athletic Bilbao. The Spanish giants went ahead twice, but ultimately, the Hoops came out on top. Reo Hatate, Alexandro Bernabei and David Turnbull were the three players to find the back of the net for the Scottish champions on the day.
It was a very positive result for Celtic for sure. Before this, they had drawn 1-1 with Wolves as well. The Premier League side got a controversial late penalty on that day. Otherwise, it could have been another victory for Brendan Rodgersβ side.
Results mean very little in pre-season. But it is great to see Celtic get positive results against good-quality opposition. That will only build up their confidence ahead of the new campaign, with three trophies to defend and Champions League group stage football to play.
The game against Athletic Bilbao was a feel-good occasion. James Forrest was given a testimonial on the day for his contributions to the club over the years.

There is a lot to play for, as is always the case for Celtic. Their opening game is against Ross County on Flag Day.
The Hoops have struggled with injury problems in pre-season but quite a few made their return to the pitch against Athletic Bilbao. That is a major positive for Rodgersβ side. Their biggest issue in recent times has been their defence. Cameron Carter-Vickers, Maik Nawrocki and Carl Starfelt, all featured on the day though, while Bernabei got himself a goal.
