Celtic have been linked with an unexpected move for Kieran Tierney this summer. The Scottish international left the club in the summer of 2019 in order to join Arsenal for a transfer fee believed to be around £25 million. His time in London has been up and down though, and an exit is a real possibility.
At this point in time, Tierney finds himself well down the left-back pecking order at Arsenal. He barely started games last season.
Rumours have linked with a move to clubs like Newcastle United and Aston Villa. But the idea of a reunion with Brendan Rodgers at Celtic has been floated in the media as well.
Interestingly, Rodgers has not ruled out the idea when questioned about it either. A permanent move is pretty much impossible, considering that Tierney is believed to be rated at a transfer fee of around £35 million. But could Celtic try to sign him on loan for the season?
Arsenal decision hands Celtic chance to sign Tierney
As reported by Football Insider, Arsenal are ready to part ways with six players before the window shuts. Mikel Arteta appears to believe that his 30-man squad is too big. They are listening to offers for Tierney, Folarin Balogun, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Rob Holding Nuno Tavares and Matt Turner.
One has to wonder whether Arsenal would be open to the idea of loaning Tierney to Celtic in order to trim down the size of their squad. The chances of the Hoops signing the left-back on a permanent basis are pretty close to zero.
All things considered, it would be a bit of a surprise if Tierney did end up at Celtic Park this summer. Nothing should ever be ruled out in football though, especially when you consider that the Scot is a boyhood fan of the Hoops.
