Celtic fans were delighted when the club were linked with a move for Dominik Livakovic earlier in the summer transfer window. The Croatian goalkeeper was arguably his national team’s best performer at the 2022 World Cup, as they finished third in the competition. And at this point in time, he could be the perfect signing for the Hoops.
Celtic are in need of a goalkeeper right now. Joe Hart’s recent performances have come under quite a bit of criticism. Also, at 36 years of age, he is not a long-term solution for the Hoops.
On the other hand, Livakovic is just 28 years of age and in the middle of his prime. So, it is not hard to see why Celtic fans want the club to sign the €10 million-rated goalkeeper.
It had looked like Celtic had missed out though, as several sources suggested that Livakovic was on his way to Fenerbahce this summer. That deal is not over the line yet and it looks like a move to Parkhead is still a possibility.
Celtic handed boost in Livakovic transfer race
As reported by Star, Fenerbahce has not yet managed to reach a happy ending regarding Livakovic. On the other hand, Keylor Navas is in contact with the Turkish club as well as Inter and Nottingham Forest.
So, it looks like Livakovic moving to Fenerbahce is not as certain as it was first believed to be. On the other hand, Navas appears to be a possible candidate for the Turkish club too. All that might open a window of opportunity for the Hoops.
Let’s see how things play out in the Livakovic transfer saga from here. If Celtic are able to sign him then it would be considered as a major boost for them. If not, then the club should keep an eye on alternative targets as well.
