Celtic have made five signings this summer, bringing in the likes of Marco Tilio, Odin Thiago Holm, Yang Hyun-jun, Kwon Hyeok-kyu and Maik Nawrocki to the club. All of them are highly-rated youngsters with the potential of becoming first-team regulars for the Hoops. But they are not the headline-grabbing additions that the fans would have been hoping for when Brendan Rodgers was appointed for a second stint in the Parkhead hot seat.
Instead, the most high-profile Celtic transfer this summer has been an exit. Jota left the club in a £25 million move to join Al-Ittihad.
On the other hand, Celtic have signed two wingers in the form of Yang and Tilio. And many fans have been left concerned that the club will not make any further signings to replace Jota.
That might not be the case after all. Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the situation and it is a positive one. As reported by GIVEMESPORT, he said when questioned if Celtic will look to replace Jota this summer:
"“For sure, they are in the market. Let’s see what will happen because this Jota deal was a big shock and unexpected this summer. But I think for sure they will sign a replacement there. They are looking at some options. Currently, it’s still not clear who is their top target, but for sure, they will sign a player there.”"
Fabrizio drops fantastic Celtic transfer update
That would be music to the ears of Celtic fans. Most have been hoping for the club to sign an established player, who can immediately walk into the starting XI and take Jota’s place. With all due respect to Yang and Tilio, they need some time to develop and adjust to the Scottish game.
Celtic have been linked with a few wingers lately. Two names that come to mind are Tete and Ryan Fraser. Now, it remains to be seen what they decide to do over the coming months. There is still a month left in the transfer window and a lot can happen between now and then.
One can only hope that Celtic are able to bring in a suitable replacement for Jota. The Portuguese winger was an integral part of the team’s success over the past two seasons.
