Considering Celtic are coming off of a treble-winning campaign, there are not a lot of holes in this squad. They have depth in almost all areas across the pitch at this time. Still, there are a few positions that the Hoops should perhaps consider strengthening. One of them is certainly goalkeeper.
Joe Hart has done a very good job over the past two seasons, playing his part in winning five trophies. But the Englishman is not the long-term solution between the posts at 36 years of age. Thus, the club will need to sign a new goalkeeper sooner or later.
Fans have been left unimpressed by Hart’s recent performances as well. He has made mistakes frequently in pre-season.
Thus, most supporters want Celtic to bring in a new goalkeeper this summer. And one of the most exciting names that they have been linked with is Dominik Livakovic of Dinamo Zagreb, who was Croatia’s hero at the 2022 World Cup.
Celtic urged to sign €10 million player this summer
As reported by Football Insider, Frank McAvennie said:
"“That is what Celtic are, they can go and match Fenerbahce without any problems.“I think he will be a lot better coming to Celtic than going to Turkey. I would say we are a better club for anyone of that stature.“He was different class in the World Cup.”"
The former Celtic player further went on to add about the matter:
"“From what we have seen in pre-season there have been a lot of mistakes from the keeper. Brendan [Rodgers] is a perfectionist so he will want rid of the mistakes at the back.“If he can get Livakovic it would be great.“"
Earlier this summer, it had looked like Livakovic was on his way to Fenerbahce. But that move appears to have stalled since then. That might open a window of opportunity to make another attempt to sign the Croatian goalkeeper.
Someone like Livakovic would instantly improve this Celtic team. With all due to respect for Hart and his legendary career, the Croatian is just the better goalkeeper at this point in time.
Of course, it won’t be easy for the Hoops to sign Livakovic. He is believed to be rated at a transfer fee of around €10 million. And Fenerbahce are still believed to be very much in the race to sign the Croatian goalkeeper from Dinamo Zagreb this summer.
