Celtic handed major boost in race to sign Tete for free

One high profile player that Celtic have been linked with in recent times is Brazilian winger, Tete. It is believed that he has become a free agent and that will only increase interest in his signature this summer. Brendan Rodgers will know him well already, having managed him for a few months during their time together at Leicester City, where he was on loan for the second half of the campaign.

Tete might not have been a success story for the Foxes, but he has already proven his mettle elsewhere. His numbers for Shakhtar Donetsk are very good and he shined while on loan at Lyon as well. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 8 goals and provided 10 assists in 30 appearances for the French club.

Thus, if Celtic are able to sign him then it would have to considered as a major boost on the part of the club. Rumours had started to break out recently though that Tete was closing in on a move to Fenerbahce.

But as tweeted out by Levent Umit Erol, Fenerbahce does not have the slightest initiative. Tete is not on their agenda.

That is great news for Celtic without doubt. If accurate, then it would only increase the Hoops’ chances of signing Tete this summer.

Of course, the presence of Rodgers could end up playing an important factor. At the same time, they can offer Tete the chance to compete for trophies and to play Champions League football, as their place in the group stage is guaranteed for next season.

Now, it remains to be seen if Celtic are able to get a deal done or not. Jota left the club this summer and someone like Tete could be an excellent replacement for the Portuguese winger.
