Celtic are rumoured to be ready to break their transfer record this summer. It currently remains the £9 million fee that they shelled out in order to sign Odsonne Edouard from PSG in 2018. It was a bold move at that point of time as the French striker was only 20 years of age but in the long run, it worked out. And now, it looks like the Hoops have their eyes on another very highly-rated youngster.
The player in question is Fabian Rieder. The Swiss super talent currently plays for BSC Young Boys but has been heavily linked with a move away this summer.
Celtic are one of the clubs rumoured to be interested in signing Rieder. But it will require them to break their transfer record, as it is believed that BSC Young Boys are looking for a fee around £15 million.
It had also been suggested that Fulham and Brentford had made offers for the Swiss international. But as reported by BILD (via The Scottish Sun), Rieder has rejected both advances because he is not interested in a move to the Premier League.
Celtic offered £15 million Rieder transfer boost
It is believed that Rieder has the Bundesliga in his sights and would prefer a move to Borussia Monchengladbach, who have also been linked with a move for the youngster. But there is positive news for Celtic in that regard as well.
Recent comments from Borussia Monchengladbach sporting director, Roland Virkus, appeared to suggest that the club are not chasing the signature of Rieder at this moment. While that could change over the coming weeks, things might be open for Celtic to make their move right now.
Celtic can offer Rieder a chance to play Champions League football as well as compete for trophies. And if he can perform for the Hoops, it could open the door to any of the top five leagues in Europe for him.
