When Brendan Rodgers was appointed by Celtic for a second stint in the Parkhead hot seat, there were rumours that the club were ready to make some marquee additions and break their transfer record this summer, in order to provide the Northern Irishman with a squad that could make an impact in the Champions League group stages. Till now, there have been no additions of that magnitude.
Yes, the club have brought in five new players in the form of Odin Thiago Holm, Marco Tilio, Yang Hyun-jun, Kwon Hyeok-kyu and Maik Nawrocki. But all of them are highly-rated youngsters with a lot of potential left to fulfil, not established stars.
One highly-rated player that they have been linked with in recent times if Brazilian winger, Tete. He has already played for a few months under the management of Rodgers, having spent the second half of last season on loan at Leicester City.
The Brazilian winger is believed to have a transfer value of around €20 million. But as tweeted out by Yagiz Sabuncuoglu, Tete got his transfer from Shakhtar Donetsk and became a free agent.
€20 million Celtic target now available on free transfer
Signing Tete would be a major coup for Celtic. He might not have been good at Leicester City but before that, he had a superb loan spell at Lyon. His numbers for Shakhtar Donetsk are great as well. He has also represented Brazil at multiple youth levels.
It is also worth pointing out that Tete is still just 23 years of age. Thus, he has plenty of room to develop his game further and get even better.
Celtic have lost a nailed on starter this summer, with Jota leaving for Al-Ittihad in a £25 million move. Someone like Tete would be a high-profile replacement for him. And the fact that he is available on a free transfer makes it an absolute no-brainer.
