Celtic have been very active in the summer transfer window when it comes to signing players. They recently completed their fifth incoming, bringing in Maik Nawrocki from Legia Warsaw. The Polish youth international is very highly-rated and could challenge the likes of Carl Starfelt and Cameron Carter-Vickers for a spot in the backline.

All the five signings that Celtic have made are highly-rated youngsters. Sooner or later, the club will need to bring in some experienced and established players as well though, if they are looking to make an impact in the Champions League group stage.

One name that has been quite surprisingly linked with a move to Celtic Park this summer is Kieran Tierney. The Scot left the club in a £25 million move in 2019 to join Arsenal.

Currently, Tierney is in a bad position at Arsenal though. He is not getting regular playing time and unsurprisingly, he has been linked with a move away. The likes of Newcastle United and Aston Villa have been rumoured as possible destinations. But the idea of a loan move to Celtic has been floated in the media as well.

Celtic urged to sign £35 million player on loan deal

As reported by Football Insider, Frank McAvennie said about the situation:

"“He [Rodgers] keeps talking about Kieran coming back,” he told Football Insider.“It would be lovely and sensational if he does, it would be like the prodigal son returning but I think he might be out our price range.“Getting him for a year on loan would be magnificent.”"

It goes without saying that signing someone of the calibre of Tierney would have to considered as a major coup for Celtic. And it would be a statement of intent on the part of the club.

Of course, considering that Tierney is rated at a transfer fee around £35 million, a permanent move is pretty much impossible. But perhaps a loan deal could be engineered.

There have been some suggestions lately though that Arsenal are not in any hurry to part ways with Tierney. They would consider an exit if an important bid is made. Of course, that is a blow to Celtic’s hopes of bringing back the Scot to Parkhead.
