There had been rumours early on in the summer transfer window that Celtic were looking to make a few marquee signings. One of the players that they were being linked with at that point of time was Dominik Livakovic. If the Hoops were able to sign the Croatian national team number one, then it would be seen as a major statement of intent.

Livakovic was arguably Croatia’s best player at the 2022 World Cup, as they finished third in the competition. And he is one of the most underrated goalkeepers in Europe right now, considering he is not playing in a top five league already at 28 years of age.

Celtic’s hopes of signing Livakovic suffered a major blow though. Rumours suggested that Fenerbahce had agreed a deal to sign the Croatian goalkeeper this summer and that the move was expected to be completed soon.

Till now, the Livakovic transfer to Fenerbahce is not complete though. And now, Celtic have been handed a boost out of the blue, in the race to sign the Croatian World Cup hero.

As tweeted out by Ahmet Konanc, Livakovic’s manager poses some new challenges. Celtic is also active. Fenerbahce also maintains contact with Navas.

Thus, it looks like the Livakovic transfer saga is not over yet. And in fact, Celtic are still in the running to sign him, if an opportunity ends up presenting itself.

The Hoops have brought in a number of young talents this summer already. But they will need some established stars as well. A move for Livakovic would certainly represent that.

Celtic are in need of a new goalkeeper. Joe Hart has done a good job over the past couple of seasons but he is not the long-term solution between the posts. Some of the Englishman’s recent performances have raised questions about his place in the starting XI as well.
