Celtic need to strengthen their squad this summer, if they are to challenge for all three domestic titles this upcoming season and also make their presence felt in the UEFA Champions League group stages. That is easier said than done though, as they have lost a key player in the form of Jota, who has left in order to join the likes of Karim Benzema and N’Golo Kante at Al-Ittihad.
Thus, Celtic definitely need to bring in more options on the wings and they certainly seem to recognise that. They have brought in Marco Tilio from Melbourne City FC already. And now, a second winger has been signed this summer.
That player is none other than Yang Hyun-jun. Gangwon FC were not keen to part ways with the player this summer, as they are trying to stay up in the South Korean top flight. But the Hoops have managed to get a deal done.
As reported by Celtic’s official website, Yang has joined the club on a five-year deal. He becomes Brendan Rodgers’ third signing of the ongoing summer transfer window
Celtic finally make long-awaited morning announcement
Yang is one of the most highly rated young talents in South Korean football right now. He won the prestigious K League Young Player of the Year award in 2022.
This season, he has not been as prolific but then, one has to recognise that Gangwon FC are a team out of form and trying to avoid relegation. Overall, there is no doubt about Yang’s talent and potential.
Thus, Celtic might have pulled off a major coup here, if he can adjust to the Scottish game. Most people had expected Yang’s signing to be announced along side that of Kwon Hyeok-kyu, who is also set to arrive at Parkhead this summer. Let’s see when that is made official.
