Celtic have already signed a couple of midfielders this summer. They brought in Odin Thiago Holm early on in the window from Valerenga. He is one of the biggest talents in Norwegian football right now and has even earned comparisons with Martin Odegaard. And recently, the Hoops also announced the signing of Kwon Hyeok-kyu from Busan IPark. The South Korean youth international has been likened to Rodri for his style of play.

Thus, it is curious that Celtic are being linked with another midfielder. And one has to wonder what that means for the futures of players like Reo Hatate and Matt O’Riley, who are constantly rumoured to be on the way out of Parkhead.

Rumours doing the rounds online suggest that Celtic are showing an international in Manchester City’s Tommy Doyle. He spent the previous season out on loan at Sheffield United but a return this season seems unlikely.

Doyle did have a decent campaign with Sheffield United as well. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 4 goals and provided 7 assists in 38 appearances last season across all competitions.

It is worth pointing out that this is not the first time that Celtic have been linked with a move for Doyle. Some rumours linked him with a Parkhead switch on loan in the summer of 2020 as well, although it did not materialise back then.

It remains to be seen if Doyle ends up at Celtic Park this time around or not. At 21 years of age, he needs to be playing regular football for sure.

He is unlikely to get that at Manchester City though. He has made a few senior appearances for them but is nowhere near the playing XI at the moment.

The 21-year-old’s versatility is an asset as well. He mostly plays in central midfield, but is capable of playing further up or down as well.
