With Jota leaving the club in order to join Al-Ittihad this summer in a £25 million transfer move, Celtic will need to bring in a top quality winger this summer in order to replace the Portuguese ace. He was a nailed on starter for the club for the past two seasons and had proven himself as someone who rose to the plate on the big occasions. Thus, it will be difficult to replace the 24-year-old.
Celtic have already signed Marco Tilio this summer. On the other hand, it is believed that they have gotten a deal done for Yang Hyun-jun as well, even though an official announcement has not been made yet. Both are highly rated young wingers, but might not be ready to walk straight into the starting XI and fill Jota’s void.
When Brendan Rodgers arrived at Celtic, there were rumours of potential marquee signings. The club have not made any, yet.
They have been linked with plenty of big names though. One of them is Tete. And Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that he is appreciated by Rodgers.
Fabrizio confirms Celtic boss appreciates €20m winger
As reported by GIVEMESPORT, Fabrizio said when asked if Celtic are searching for a replacement for Jota:
"“Yeah, for sure. They want a replacement for Jota and they are looking at the market for that, so there are multiple opportunities. Tete is a player who is really appreciated by the manager, of course, but he’s not the only one.”"
Tete has played under the management of Rodgers in the past, when he was on loan at Leicester City in the second half of last season. The Northern Irishman would be shown the exit door in early April though.
Tete is a very highly rated player, even though the Brazilian winger’s time at Leicester City might not have been a success. He had a great loan spell at Lyon before that and has been terrific for Shakhtar Donetsk over the years as well.
Tete is believed to be rated at a transfer fee around €20 million. But he could be available for a bargain figure. His current deal with Shakhtar Donetsk runs out at the end of this year and he is rumoured to be keen on leaving this summer.
