Celtic are expected to complete several more signings before the summer transfer window closes. There have been rumours about marquee additions but we have seen nothing in that regard till now. The Hoops do seem to be closing in on a move for a very highly-rated and promising centre-back in order to strengthen their backline.
Celtic’s defence has emerged as an area of worry in recent times. They struggled and leaked goals towards the end of last season, in the absence of Cameron Carter-Vickers and Alistair Johnston. And in the ongoing pre-season, they let six goals in against Yokohama F. Marinos.
Thus, improvements are needed there. And there have been suggestions that the club are closing in on a move for Maik Nawrocki of Legia Warsaw.
Of course, Celtic are no strangers to signing players from Legia Warsaw. The last one they brought in was Josip Juranovic and he turned out to be an excellent player, who has since moved on to Union Berlin. The Croatian might end up playing a part in this summer’s transfer though.
Juranovic advises £4 million player to join Celtic
As reported by The Scottish Daily Mail [22/07 print edition, back page] (via 67 Hail Hail) Juranovic received a phone call from Nawrocki, with the Croatian delivering a glowing report on life at Parkhead. He told the 22-year-old defender that a switch to Celtic would be good for his career.
Of course, Juranovic enjoyed a great run at Parkhead. He was a leader and a fan favourite, and his exit to join Union Berlin earlier this year, was seen as a blow for Celtic.
It is great to see that Juranovic still holds Celtic in such high esteem. Now, it remains to be seen if they are able to complete the signing of Nawrocki. It seems like only a matter of time though.
