There appears to be so much transfer activity going on for Celtic right now that it is hard to keep up with all the potential moves. A number of fresh faces are expected to arrive over the coming days. But in amongst all the news, it looks like one player has turned down the chance to depart this summer, despite being far down the pecking order at Parkhead.

Albian Ajeti doesn’t seem to have much of a future at Celtic. It’s unlikely that even the fresh eye of a new manager in Brendan Rodgers will change anything for the Swiss striker.

The player has had plenty of chances in the past and is out of the picture by now, when it comes to being in contention for a spot in the playing XI. Ajeti spent last season out on loan, at Austrian side Sturm Graz, but didn’t do much to impress there while continuing to struggle with injuries.

Ajeti joined Celtic back in the summer of 2020 from West Ham United. He signed on a four-year deal for a transfer fee around £5 million and has managed to score only 9 goals since then.

As reported by the Daily Mail (via Football Scotland), Ajeti and his agent turned down the chance to have part of his deal paid up, just like Vasilis Barkas did this summer. It looks like the Swiss striker plans to see his contract through and leave as a free agent a year later.

There’s little chance for Ajeti of winning his place in the playing XI. With unimpressive form and injuries from his West Ham United days continuing through his three years so far at Celtic and his time out on loan, it is not going to be easy to find a new club for the Swiss striker either.

It remains to be seen what the future holds. But at the moment, it looks like Ajeti might stay on at Parkhead for another season.
