Celtic are expected to bring in a lot of fresh faces in the ongoing summer transfer window in order to reshape the squad to fit Brendan Rodgers’ vision and plans. At the same time though, there are quite a few at the club, who do not seem to have a place in the first-team right now and are expected to be on their way out over the coming weeks.
One player who seems to fall under that category is Bosun Lawal. The defender has been very highly rated in the youth ranks but has never found his feet at the senior level.
In fact, Lawal has only made one appearance for Celtic at the senior level. And it does not feel like he would get many minutes if he stayed on at Parkhead next season. So, a move away is expected, whether it be on loan or on a permanent basis. There seems to be some interest in his signature.
As reported by Football Insider, Lawal is a loan target for League One sides, Portsmouth and Bristol Rovers. They have have registered their interest in signing the youngster.
Two English clubs make moves to sign Celtic defender
Lawal’s current deal with Celtic runs until the summer of 2024. Thus, if he was to leave on loan, one would expect the club to agree an extension with him first. For the same reason, a permanent exit cannot be ruled out either.
Lawal is still just 20 years of age and considering his potential, it might be way too early to let him go. The loan route might be the right one, if the Hoops manage to agree an extension with the Republic of Ireland youth international.
Let’s see how things play out for Lawal. A loan move to League One might be a great opportunity for him to develop.
