With Brendan Rodgers returning for a second stint in the Celtic hot seat, there have been plenty of rumours that the club want to make a few marquee additions to their squad this summer. Such news has excited the fans without doubt and one name that has been heavily linked with the Hoops is that of Swiss super talent, Fabian Rieder.
Rieder currently plays for BSC Young Boys. He has represented them at the highest levels in Europe, and even has a goal to his name against Manchester United away at Old Trafford in the Champions League.
On the other hand, he has a few appearances for the Switzerland national team as well. And rumours had suggested that Celtic were ready to offer a transfer fee as high as £16 million in order sign Rieder from BSC Young Boys this summer.
Their current record is the £9 million fee that they shelled out in order to sign Odsonne Edouard from PSG. That would be completely shattered, if they made a move of that magnitude for Rieder. But there is an unexpected twist in the saga.

As tweeted out by Mark Hendry, there has been no contact from Celtic for Rieder. He has “a lot of concrete” offers but none from the Hoops at this time.
Such an update has put a potential move for Rieder in doubt. Now, it remains to be seen if Celtic end up making a move for him in the near future or not.
There is no doubt that Rieder is a huge talent and signing him would be a statement of intent on the part of Celtic, regarding their seriousness to make an impact in the Champions League. For the time being, it looks like they have not made an offer to sign him though.
