Celtic have already made quite a few signings this summer, bringing in Odin Thiago Holm and Marco Tilio, while they are believed to be on the verge of announcing the arrivals of Yang Hyun-jun and Kwon Hyeok-kyu as well. All of them are very talented young players and might have bright futures ahead of them, but the Hoops also need a few who can come in and challenge for a starting place from the get go.

One area where Celtic might need to strengthen is their defence. We saw the backline struggle towards the end of last season in the absence of Cameron Carter-Vickers and Alistair Johnston. This pre-season, they conceded six goals to Yokohama F. Marinos.

Thus, there are some worrying signs for sure. Yuki Kobayashi has failed to impress since arriving while Stephen Welsh might be on his way out in this window. So bringing in another centre-back might not be the worst idea.

And it appears that they have one firmly in their sights. As reported by Football Scotland, Celtic are closing in on a move for Maik Nawrocki, with Galatasaray remaining the main contenders for his signature.

On the other hand, as reported by Glasgow Live, Legia Warsaw manager Kosta Runjaic said about the situation of Nawrocki:

"“The information has already leaked out, there is a serious offer on the table, but at the moment these are internal consultations. You can count on Maik Nawrocki leaving our club soon.”"

Thus, it looks like Nawrocki is closing in on a move away from Legia Warsaw and Celtic seem to be emerging as the favourites to sign him. Some rumours have even suggested that the Hoops have already made a €6 million transfer offer for him along with a sell-on clause for the Polish club.

Nawrocki is coming off of an impressive campaign for Legia Warsaw. The Polish defender could be ready to come in and challenge for a spot in the starting XI. He was part of the youth ranks at Werder Bremen before making the move to Poland. The 22-year-old has already played at the Europa League level and in Champions League qualifiers.
