Celtic are expected to bring in several new faces this summer in order to reshape the squad according to Brendan Rodgers’ vision, who has replaced Ange Postecoglou in the hot seat. At the same time, it is also important for the club to part ways with a few players, who do not seem to have any real future at Parkhead.

One player who appears to fall under that category is Liam Shaw. Celtic agreed a pre-contract with the midfielder in early 2021 and appeared to have high hopes for him.

Shaw’s time at Celtic has failed to match expectations though. After an underwhelming first half to the 2021/22 campaign, he was sent out on loan to Motherwell. And he spent last season at Morecambe FC.

As reported by Wigan Today, Wigan Athletic are closing in on the signing of Shaw. His performances for Morecambe FC caught the eye of the Latics and Shaun Maloney.

Shaw was very highly rated while coming through the ranks at Sheffield Wednesday and played quite a bit of football for them in the Championship. His move to Celtic clearly did not work out as well as expected though and right now, he finds himself in an interesting position in his career.

It does not feel like he will be a regular feature for Celtic any time soon, if ever. Thus, it might be the best step for all parties involved for him to leave the club this summer and try a different challenge.

It looks like that could very well come at Wigan Athletic. The Latics got relegated from the Championship last season, after finishing bottom of the table. As a result, they find themselves back in League One once again and will surely be looking to go back up as soon as possible.
