After allowed Yokohama F. Marinos to score six goals past them, it is not hard to see why Celtic might potentially be looking for defenders this summer. Of course, the unavailability of Cameron Carter-Vickers and Alistair Johnston is a major worry at the moment. In their absence, others have not really stepped up to the plate though.

There are big question marks over Yuki Kobayashi already, who was brought in just earlier this year. On the other hand, Stephen Welsh is expected to leave the club this summer.

So, do not be surprised to see Celtic go for another centre-back this summer. And it looks like they have their eyes on one of the best from the Eredivisie.

As reported by The Mail+, a central defender remains a priority for Celtic and Xavier Mbuyamba is high on their list of targets. The 21-year-old is expected to leave FC Volendam this summer, and the Hoops face competition for his signature.

Mbuyamba was part of the youth ranks at Barcelona. He would end up at Chelsea as well, but was not able to make it at either club.

He currently finds himself in the Dutch top flight with FC Volendam and has done a wonderful job for them till now. It looks like the highly-rated centre-back has finally found his feet at the senior level and is showing fans what the hype was all about.

Mbuyamba is without doubt one of the best young defenders in the Eredivisie right now and if Celtic are able to sign him, it would be considered a major coup. The 21-year-old is great in the air, solid in defence and comfortable with the ball at his feet. Yes, he is not the most experienced but he has the potential to be a top quality centre-back.
